SecureIT presents to Reston Chamber of Commerce Members on Credit Card Security and the PCI-DSS

Reston, VA — SecureIT presented to the Reston Chamber of Commerce Member Breakfast on PCI Security Standards. The presentation, made by Ray Scurr from SecureIT , was titled: “What Is Your Credit Card Doing Tonight: Out on the town or safe in your wallet?” The members were treated to a series of true-life-stories, from well-known recent payment card thefts from corporations, to the rise of payment brand security programs and to the ultimate creation of the PCI council and DSS standard. An overview of the payment card industry including the issuance, authorization and settlement processes and the firms involved. The presentation concluded with a current assessment of the state of PCI compliance in the payment card industry, which left the audience speechless.
Mr. Scurr emphasized that all businesses share one common ingredient – they are putting someone’s personal information at risk of discovery – and jeopardizing their own business in the process. Mr. Scurr also impressed the crowd on how PCI data security standards apply to all businesses – “make sure your business is doing enough to prevent unauthorized access of credit card data, and make sure everyone you deal with is doing the same.”
